The present work seeks to analyze the impact of the emergence of China as a non-traditional donor, focusing on the African case. Due to the peculiarities of Chinese practices of aid, the arrival of the government of Beijing as a powerhouse within the field of international aid represents a challenge to the norms and ideas established by the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which has dominated the field since the end of the Second World War. In that sense, to observe the tension between the emergence of China as a donor and the dominant order, the article adopts a practice approach, emphasizing the role of social practices as enhancers of change or as keepers of the status quo, arguing that in the case of China in Africa we are witnessing the first.Downloads
